Garching Campus

Garching, DE

The essential element of the construction proposal involves making use of the existing roads in the east as well as west to connect the institute from both sides despite its dense building development.

This creates the regulatory framework for the allocation of various functions. Not only does this allow for a simple building structure, the rhythmically positioned gaps also create an interesting visual relationship with the landmark of the campus: the Atom-Ei (atomic egg). All "houses" are situated on a slightly elevated platform. This wooden deck-like base extends beyond the building structures in the north and provides for a low-traffic area in which pedestrians have the right of way.
