Kigali Convention Center

Kigali, RW

The Convention Center is the heart of the Kigali Convention Complex which has been opened after more than seven years constrution time by Rwanda’s president Paul Kagame on behalf oft he African Union Summit on July 8, 2016. The cupola construction is unique for so many reasons: The construction with its ascending, support-less and yet walkable spiral shape has its roots in traditional African architecture – a highly visible symbol of the identity of a politically and economically upcoming country. The filigree support structure of the cupola is frugally constructed in terms of resources and the underlying assembly room is naturally lit from above.

Together with the bordering IT-Office Park (actually still unbuilt) and the neighboring 5-star hotel, the Convention Center is a meeting place that extends far beyond the borders of its own country.
